Workshops
Please reach out if you are interested in participating on a Mosaic, Glass Casting, 3D Substrate Design or Mosaic Mural workshop.
Workshops are custom designed for the individual or group and can range in duration from one day to multiple meeting days.
Groups can work independently, creating a mosaic or glass panel or can work collaboratively on a mural project.
-Birthday Celebration Mosaic Party
This family spent an afternoon creating a mosaic tray to commemorate a birthday. The design and color decisions were established prior to the mosaic party, the tray was grouted after meeting. All were beginner mosaic artists and all did fantastic work!

-"Mosaicked Collage" workshop, Tacony LAB, Philadelphia, Pa.
This was a three meeting class, first class a paper collage was created on the wood substrate. Day 2 stained glass was secured to the surface creating " windows " to see the collage and day 3 the pieces were grouted.

-Teen Lounge "Sidewalk Mosaic Kinsugi" Workshop, Fleisher Art Memorial, Philadelphia, Pa.
The group of teens created mosaic pieces to fill cracks in the sidewalks in this south Philadelphia neighborhood. We met four times, students learned how to cut stained glass and used the indirect method to create their "kinsugi" pieces.

-"Floral Mosaic" Adult Workshop, Tacony LAB, Philadelphia, Pa.
Over the course of four meeting times, the class designed, mosaicked and grouted their pieces. Cutting and setting techniques were demonstrated using both stained glass and ceramic tile.

-8th Grade Mural Project at C3 Charter School, Elmer, New Jersey
I worked with four sections of eighth grade students on a "legacy" project, their graduation gift to the school . The project was completed over the course of a school quarter. The class collectively designed each of the panels and then learned how to use stained glass and found objects to create their mosaic panels. The students also grouted and helped with the installation of their pieces. The four panel mosaic is prominently displayed on the school's campus.

-Family Mosaic Workshop: Bas Relief Glass Tile Feature
A family who were planning a trip to Philadelphia reached out to me and together we designed a 2 day (6 hour) mosaic workshop. We decided to focus on creating a bas relief glass "feature" tile and to use mixed media mosaic techniques to complete the project. Both parents and children
(ages 8 & 10) did an amazing job on their pieces!

-Center on the Hill, Chestnut Hill, Pa. "Bas Relief Tile Panel" Class
In this class students were taught how to create an 8"x 8" bas relief tile panel. We used a high fire clay and underglazes to complete the project. The class met once a week for three weeks.

-Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, Philadelphia, Pa. "Mini Mosaic" creative work station
I ran a "make an take" station at the Cultural Alliances' annual meeting held at the Cherry Street Pier. Participants created a mini mosaic using a variety of glass tile and stained glass materials.
See their video of the event highlights here.

-Center on the Hill, Chestnut Hill, Pa. Active Adults Tile making and Mural Workshop
This group of images were taken during a mosaic tile making workshop I conducted at an "Active Adult" Center in Chestnut Hill, Pa.
The mural design was created by me with input from the Center's director. Students were shown how to create bas relief ceramic tiles using hand building techniques. After bisque firing the tiles were glazed using colorful underglazes. Once fired, the tiles were assembled onto the wedi board substrates. The completed mural is in the entryway vestibule in the Center's building.
Here is an article from the Chestnut Hill Local about the project: https://www.chestnuthilllocal.

-Kiln Fired Glass Workshop
I taught a group of mosaic artists the processes involved with creating handmade glass tiles. Students designed a bas relief tile, first in clay, then creating a plaster mold to enable the making of a kiln fired glass replica. In addition, the group experimented with layered glass fusing and sand casting using glass powders.

-Custom Designed Mosaic Class
I worked with a couple who had recently moved from Poland and wanted to commemorate their time spent there. They selected two images to interpret in mosaics, shared photos with me and spent a weekend creating their mixed media pieces.

-3D Substrate Design Workshop
Students experimented with creating 3D substrates using a variety of methods including layering wedi board, sculpting with floral foam and using wire and screening. The finished substrates were used as a canvas for mosaic designs.
